Security beefed up at Bombardier's plant due to labour trouble

The management of Bombardier Transportation has beefed up security at its metro car making plant at Savli near here after a section of its workers went on strike.
The company has about 500 employees here of whom about 125 have stopped work since June 3 to press for their demands.
A company spokesman said that it became necessary to raise the strength of the security personnel from 60 to 150 after striking workers threatened to stop other workers from performing their duties.
The company is currently executing bogie orders for railway in Adelaide and Victoria in Australia and metro cars for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

The spokesman said that," Bombardier Transportation has faced issues recently at the Savli site with employees who have gone on an illegal strike making unreasonable demands, threatening other employees, engaging support of the local union and forcing consultants to stop work".
The striking workers were reportedly upset over company's plan to transfer some of the workers from Savli to New Delhi.

The officials of the Gujarat government are expected to meet the representatives of the company and the workers tomorrow.
Bombardier Transportation India, the domestic outfit of Montreal-based Bombardier Inc, started the railway coach manufacturing plant here in 2008.
It is India's first fully foreign-owned railway coach manufacturing unit.
