Inspector General of Police (South-Western Range), Yashwant Kumar Jethwa said security had been tightened in the Maoist-hit districts and a close watch was being maintained to deal with any situation.
"Due to extensive anti-naxal operations in the area in past few months, the Maoists are on defencive. The situation is under control, but we can't be complacent", he said.
Strict vigil is being maintained, particularly along the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha borders to stop possible influx of ultras from the neighbouring state, the IG said.
Maoists have meanwhile put up posters at several areas in Malkangiri district asking people to cooperate with them during the foundation week and join the movement, police said.
The week celebrations would include cultural programmes, meetings at remote hideouts and efforts to spread the message of the Maoist organisation.
The rebels may launch a recruitment drive to induct new blood, the police added.
CPI (Maoist) was formed on September 21, 2004 after merger of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), Peoples War Group and Maoist Communist Centre of India. It observes foundation week from September 21 to 27 every year.
