The 50-year-old devotee, Pramod Mohanty, complained of chest pain and died on the way to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack yesterday, family members said.
His last rites were performed in the village last afternoon.
Personnel of the crime branch investigating the Sarathi Baba case had retrieved a deserted car of the self-styled godman from Mohanty's residential campus on Sunday and he was subsequently questioned by the investigating police team, the police said.
"Since there was no police report in this connection, postmortem of the body was not conducted," Jagatpur police inspector Ranjit Prusty said.
