Sembcorp announced that its first thermal power plant, Thermal Powertech Corporation India (TPCIL), has commenced commercial operation with the completion of its first 660 MW unit, the company said in a statement.
The 1,320 MW coal-fired power plant comprises two units of 660 MW each. The second unit expected to begin commercial operations in the third quarter of 2015.
The estimated investment on the plant is USD 1.5 billion, which is located in Krishnapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh.
With the completion of this first unit, the plant has begun supplying power to the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
