Shiv Sena has decided to support a no-confidence motion against Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, party leader Namdeo Kadam said tonight.
Sena President Uddhav Thackeray held a late evening meeting of senior party leaders and corporators from NMMC at Mumbai Mayor's bungalow at Shivaji Park in which the party's stand was decided, he said.
"All corporators have unanimously conveyed to Uddhav ji that they want to support the no-confidence motion against Mundhe as there is a lot of public unrest against him," Kadam told PTI.
"When all party leaders strongly opposed the municipal commissioner, Uddhav ji too gave his consent and it was finally decided that all 38 party corporators would seek his ouster," he added.
Corporators across party lines have closed ranks to bring a no-confidence motion tomorrow against Mundhe for his alleged undemocratic functioning even as local residents have come together to back the officer who has cracked a whip against illegal constructions.
The motion, unprecedented in NMMC history, will come up for discussion in the special general body meeting of the NCP-ruled civic body tomorrow.
