Rising for the second day, the 30-share index advanced by 207.20 points, or 0.78 per cent, to trade at 26,797.79 as all sectoral indices, led by auto, realty and metal, were trading in the positive zone with gains of up to 1.36 per cent.
The gauge had gained 31.44 points in the previous choppy session.
On similar lines, the NSE Nifty reclaimed the 8,100-level by rising 48.80 points, or 0.61 per cent, to 8,109.50.
Besides, value-buying in recently battered bluechips too supported the rise, they said.
Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 3.10 per cent while Japan's Nikkei gained 2.42 per cent in early trade today. Shanghai Composite index up 2.58 per cent.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.50 per cent higher in yesterday's trade.
