57-year-old Bonaventura has confirmed he has read the screenplay for the proposed follow-up and he believes it's "exciting" and "daring", reported Contactmusic.
"I just read the 'Salt 2' script last week and we'll be going into the studio soon, hopefully," he said.
"One of the mysteries of our business is what gets made, why it gets made, and when it gets made. It's an exciting script and has a very daring idea," he added.
'Salt', directed by Phillip Noyce, was both a critical and box office success upon its release grossing nearly USD 300 million worldwide.
