Series of cultural and literacy programmes to be held in J&K

A series of cultural and literary programmes including a heritage exhibition and conferences on various languages will be organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy in the coming weeks.
Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), a J&K government supported organisation, will be organising a series of cultural programmes with a view to showcase the rich heritage of the state.
"A calendar of important activities has been drawn for the next three months. A two-day Kashmir Heritage exhibition will be held on September 18 and 19 to showcase rich legacy of Kashmir through art, craft, musical instruments, archaeology, costume, manuscripts and images," JKAACL Secretary Khalid Bashir Ahmad said today.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also the President of the Academy, will inaugurate the exhibition in Srinagar, he said adding that it will be organised in association with the departments of archives, archaeology and museums, handicrafts and some NGOs.
Khalid said a two-day cultural festival will start from today at Kargil in Ladakh region featuring an art camp, seminar on local languages, Urdu Mushaira and a cultural evening.
As part of the series of language conferences started by the academy last year, a conference on Pahari language will be held at Rajouri in Jammu region on September 22-23 followed by conferences in Gojri, Urdu, Hindi and Ladakhi languages.

The Academy is also holding cultural programmes at district level in the State, he said.
