The 39-year-old comedian announced the news Monday on Twitter.
"Traumatized critics exhale: I'm unable to do the Oscars again," MacFarlane wrote on his Twitter page.
"Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep."
MacFarlane may have left some critics fuming with his probing jibes this year but he was praised from his producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
Zadan and Meron are returning next year and they apparently wanted to bring him back.
