Tamil Nadu's Sethu Football Club ended its campaign in the Qualifying Group "A" phase of the AIFF Indian Women's League, with a 1-1 draw against Rising Student Club, Odisha, here today.
With seven points from two wins, a draw and a loss in the all-play-all five-team group, Madurai-based Sethu FC, finished third in the group behind toppers Rising Student Club and Indira Gandhi AS&E (Puducherry).
Rising Student Club qualified for the main draw of IWL to be played early next year as group topper.
Sethu FC played impressively against the Odisha side with goalkeeper Soumiya coming up with a solid performance.
The Madurai club was unable to convert the chances that came its way with R Sumithra missing one by inches.
Pyari Xaxa put Rising Student Club ahead in the 47th minute. Sumithra equalised for Sethu FC two minutes later, the pass coming from Karthika.
"Given that this is our first national tournament, I'm happy with the overall performance of our girls," said coach Kalpana Dass.
"Like I said before the tournament, this is a huge learning curve for our side. There were some high-points and there are also areas that we will have to improve. One defeat in four games but that made the difference," she added.
