Congress today said that members of its Seva Dal outfit would be deployed at key polling booths to keep a vigil on the voting during the December 4 Assembly elections in Delhi.
Terming them the party's backbone, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Jai Prakash Agarwal said, "The entire Congress structure was built around Seva Dal. It has been decided to give responsibility for the special booths to Seva Dal workers. The brave volunteers would keep vigil at these booths in the coming Assembly elections."
DPCC had organised a Seva Dal convention today attended thousands of volunteers.
"Seva Dal would do commendable work during the Assembly polls with its members working side by side with Congress workers," Agarwal said, adding that Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had given new direction to the volunteer group.
Addressing the convention, Mahendra Joshi, the All India Congress Seva Dal Chief Organiser, alleged that Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was trying to foment unrest among the people in the country.
He said that people would not get fooled by the promises made by Modi and BJP and would elect Congress back to power in Delhi.
Joshi said Seva Dal would depute five volunteers at each polling booth while, in the run up to the elections, it would work to make people aware of the Congress' achievements, policies and programmes.
