The accident took place in Kothakota mandal of the district around 8 am, they said.
"Seven persons travelling in the cars died on the spot and another one sustained injuries," a police official supervising the rescue efforts told PTI over phone.
"One of the cars was proceeding from Hyderabad to Kurnool. It as apparently being driven at a high speed. The vehicle initially rammed into a road divider and landed on the other side of the road, where it was hit by another car," the official said.
