The woman, identified as, Sarita Pal (25) allegedly pushed Harshit's head into the bucket till he died of suffocation, Kotwali Inspector Ajay Srivastava said.
She later rang up her husband, a school teacher, to tell him about the incident before fatally hanging herself from the roof of the house, Srivastava said.
Sarita's husband had adopted his sister's son (Harshit) after the couple remained childless for some years after marriage, but ever since she delivered a baby girl six month's ago, she had been asking that the boy be sent back to his parents, the inspector said.
