Severe cold wave persists in Punjab, Haryana

Extreme cold wave conditions continued to grip Punjab and Haryana with day temperatures falling several notches below normal level even as a thick blanket of fog threw normal life out of gear.
While the minimum temperatures have been hovering just near the normal level at most places in the two states, the maximum temperatures have plummeted upto ten notches below normal level.
A thick blanket of fog engulfed most places in both the states, affecting normal life.
Chandigarh residents woke up to a thick blanket of fog and icy cold winds this morning. The minimum temperature today settled at 6.2 degree Celsius, a notch below normal as against yesterday's maximum of 10.4 degrees, which was down by ten notches below normal, the MeT Department report said.

At most places in the two states, days are turning out be extremely cold with maximum temperatures settling in the range of 10-15 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, Ambala's low was recorded at 6.1 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature in Hisar was recorded at 6.2 degrees.

The minimum temperatures in Karnal, Narnual and Bhiwani were recorded at 6.5, 3.5 and 6.4 degree Celsius, all hovered close to normal level.
Piercing cold wave swept Amritsar where the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degree Celsius while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded respective lows of 6.7 and 6.6 degrees.
Foggy weather in the past few days has adversely affected road, rail and air traffic in the region.
