Such a step would prevent eruption of any controversy during screening of films containing scenes which had the potential to hurt sentiments of the Sikhs, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said.
Makkar said he had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard.
The SGPC head said he wrote the letter in the wake of Sunny Deol starrer Hindi movie Singh Sahab the Great courting controversy.
Though he himself was satisfied with scenes in the film related to the Sikhs, a section of the community had opposed these, he said.
Makkar said the delay in the removal of the "scouting office" from gurudwara Gian Godri Sahib at Haridwar, built in memory of Guru Nanak Dev, showed "callousness" on part of the Uttarakhand government.
He said he had met the Uttarakhand Chief Minister a number of times in this connection.
