Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today joined hardliners in paying tribute to the assassins of Army General AS Vaidya at a function held at Akal Takht here.
Tributes were paid to Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha, assassins of Gen. Vaidya, under whose command Operation Blue Star was carried out in 1984 to flush out militants from the Golden Temple.
The entire ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD-Badal) leadership stayed away from the event with the hardliners slamming them for "not attending" due to a fear of backlash from Hindu voters and the national media.
