Dikshit today gave approval to a project prepared by the East MCD to be funded by Trans Yamuna Development Board after Shahdara Jheel dried up fully in 2004.

"The present status of 30 acre land has become from bad to worse due to neglect by civic agencies. Dikshit said that the entire project would cost Rs 22 crore and that the Trans Yamuna Development Board has already sanctioned Rs 7 crore as first installment," an official release said.

While appreciating the project, Dikshit said its design has been prepared by NEERI in association with Oasis Designs.

A water body with ecosystem concepts would be created by developing a natural habitation, bringing back wetland and equated ecosystem and ground water recharge.

Around 3 million per day waste water would be treated by a NEERI technology by use of unique natural process, she said.

"A dedicated track along the revived lake would be constructed to connect it to the Metro Station. A separate public/recreational area would be developed for the nearby residents, so that they get a relaxation zone at their doorstep," the release said.
