Shaji now a "proclaimed offender"

A local court here today declared Shaji Purushothaman, son of an industrialist for whom a look-out circular has been issued in a Mercedes hit-and-run case, as a proclaimed offender.
XIV Metropolitan magistrate's court at Egmore here declared him a proclaimed offender, as sought by Chennai Police.
This would enable law enforcing agencies to hand over Shaji to Chennai Police if he is caught elsewhere in the country.
Shaji allegedly drove his vehicle under the influence of alcohol at high speed hitting a police patrol vehicle and later ran over some children sleeping on pavements near the Maternity Hospital at Egmore on May 23 night, which left a boy dead and another girl with serious injuries.
