Musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have provided the music for Gajendra Ahire's supernatural thriller 'Anvat', which marks their debut in Marathi films.
The thriller will be premiered at the upcoming Goa Marathi Film Festival scheduled here next month. It stars celebrity couple Aadinath Kothare and Urmila Knetker besides Makrand Anaspure in pivotal roles.
"It was not difficult to get Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy on board for the film. In fact, they have done this project without charging anything," Ahire told PTI in an interview.
The famous composers have made music under the guidance of renowned singer Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar. He and Mahadevan have revived many hit Marathi numbers sung by Mangeshkar for the film.
"When I discussed about Shankar (Mahadevan) with Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, he said one of the songs which is planned for the movie is very close to him (Shankar)," Ahire said.
The film is set in the backdrop of 1975's Konkan, Goa and Hyderabad.
"This is for the first time that a supernatural thriller genre is being tried in Marathi film industry. I have been working on different genres and they are challenging for me. Supernatural thriller is a universally accepted genre and hence even Marathi audience will accept it. Marathis also form a section of global view who are interested in watching such type of films," he said.
The national-award winning director began his career as a theatre artist before shifting to television with serials like 'Sriman Srimati' and later joined the Marathi film industry.
Ahire had also worked with banners like Adhikari Brothers and Balaji Films. The director said that he will try his luck in Hindi film industry if he gets something interesting.
"I will surely do a Hindi film if I get script which I like..I am not interested in the current circus of the Hindi film industry..I am happy with what I am doing," he said.
