'Shape of Water' leads 2018 Golden Globe nominations

Director Guillermo del Toro's fantasy drama "The Shape of Water" is leading the 2018 Golden Globe nominations with seven nods, including the best drama film and the best drama actress.
Martin McDonagh's "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and Steven Spielberg's journalism drama "The Post" earned six nods each at the nominations, which were announced today.
"The Post", starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, Christopher Nolan's World War Two story "Dunkirk", coming-of- age gay romance "Call me By Your Name" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" will fight it out in the best picture - drama category.
Sally Hawkins earned a nomination in the best actress - drama category for playing a mute Elisa in "The Shape of Water".

Streep, who is in the role of publisher Kay Graham of the Washington Post in the movie "The Post", is also nominated in the category alongside Jessica Chastain ("Molly's Game"), Frances McDormand of "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and Michelle Williams of "All the Money in the World".
Streep's co-star Hanks is nominated in the best actor - drama for his role as the Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee, who fought with the government to publish the Pentagon Papers. Daniel Day-Lewis is nominated for his role in "Phantom Thread" (his last film), so is Gary Oldman for playing Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour".

Denzel Washington "Roman J Israel, Esq." and Timothee Chalamet of "Call Me by Your Name" complete the list of best actors in the drama category.

Spielberg, del Toro, Mcdnagh, Nolan and Ridley Scott for "All the Money in the World" are nominated in the best director category.
"I, Tonya", the dramatic story of disgraced former figure skater Tonya Harding, James Franco's "The Disaster Artist", thriller "Get Out", Hugh Jackman-starrer "The Greatest Showman" and coming-of-age drama "Ladybird" are nominated in the best picture - comedy or musical category.
Both Franco and Jackman are nominated in the best actor - comedy or musical category alongside Steve Carell ("Battle of Sexes"), Ansol Elgort ("Baby Driver") and Daniel Kaluuya ("Get Out").

Veteran star Judi Dench has earned a nomination for "Victoria & Abdul", a movie about Queen Victoria's bond with her Indian servant (Ali Fazal).
Margot Robbie is one of the front-runners in the category for "I, Tonya". Saoirse Ronan ("Lady Bird"), Emma Stone ("Battle of Sexes") and Helen Mirren "The Leisure Seeker" are also nominated.
"Shape of Water" star Octavia Spencer is one of the nominees in the best supporting actress category. She will fight it out with Hong Chau for "Downsizing", Mary J Blige "Mudbound", Allison Janney for "I, Tonya" and Laurie Metcalf "Lady Bird".
Spencer's co-star Richard Jenkins is nominated in the best supporting actor category where his competition is with veteran actor Willem Dafoe ("The Florida Project"), Armie Hammer ("Call Me by Your Name"), Sam Rockwell for "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and Christopher Plummer, who replaced Kevin Spacey in "All The Money in The World".

"Shape of Water" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" also earned nominations in the best original score- motion picture category along side "Phantom Thread", "The Post", and "Dunkirk".
Angelina Jolie's directorial venture, "First They Killed my Father" is nominated in the best motion picture-foreign language category. It will compete with "A Fantastic Woman", "First They Killed My Father", "In the Fade", "Loveless" and "The Square".
Golden Globe winners will be announced on January 7 at a ceremony in Beverly Hills, California, hosted by Seth Meyers.
