Sharma to meet WTO chief, US Trade Representative at WEF

After playing a vital role in the successful trade talks at Bali last month, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma will meet US Trade Representative Michael Froman and WTO chief Roberto Azevedo during the World Economic Forum.
The meetings assume significance as the leaders are meeting for the first time after the WTO's ministerial conference in Bali.
Overcoming a string of failures over the years, the WTO reached a landmark agreement in Bali that is expected to help boost global trade by USD 1 trillion, while taking on board concerns of countries like India to protect its food security scheme to provide subsidised grains to the poor.

Sharma is here for the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting at this Swiss ski resort town.
"During the visit, Sharma will meet Froman and Azevedo," an official statement issued in New Delhi said.
Besides, the Minister will also meet European Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht and Australian Trade & Investment Minister Andrew Robb, among other leaders.
"Sharma will meet key global CEOs from defence, retail, oil and other sectors. He will meet, among others, Dev Sanyal, Executive Vice President & Group Chief of Staff BP, Plc; Ivan Menezes, Chief Executive, DIAGEO," it said.
The other top corporate leaders who will meet Sharma include Simon Henry, Global Chief Financial Officer, Shell and Harish Manwani, Global Chief Operating Officer, Unilever.
