The winter session will be held from December 19 to 26.
Battle lines are clearly drawn in the 243-member legislative assembly with JD (U) having 115 members. The BJP has 88 MLAs, RJD 24, Congress 5 and CPI has just one. There are five Independent MLAs, while five seats are vacant.
In the 75-member legislative council, the JD (U) is in majority with 41 MLCs. The BJP has 16, RJD 5, Congress 4 and CPI has 2 members, while the rest are Independents. The upper house is expected to witness intense activity as heavyweights like former Chief Ministers Nitish Kumar and Rabri Devi, former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and BJP state unit President Mangal Pandey all are its members.
"It's going to be a very important session. Bihar is suffering on all fronts. We will raise issues related to deteriorating law and order, corruption, medicine and liquor scams, stampede at Gandhi Maidan during Dushehra earlier this year, and the incident in which Manjhi had claimed that a temple in Madhubani district was washed after his visit there as he is a mahadalit (SC)," senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi told PTI.
"But everything depends on the attitude of the ruling party towards discussing various issues pertaining to misgovernance in the state. We will act accordingly," Modi said.
The senior BJP leader pointed out that this is a very short session of the legislature as excluding weekend and Christmas holiday, work will be held only on five days, and out of this too one day will be devoted to condolences and tributes.
