Shriram Farm launches mobile app for farmers

Shriram Farm Solutions, part of the agri-division of DCM Shriram Ltd, today announced the launch android-based application 'Shriram SmartKisan' to help farmers in their daily agri practices.
"With mobile phones being easily accessible to all and technology becoming easier by the day, this Android application is being introduced at a time when farmers can use it to benefit them in their day-to-day agricultural practices," said Sovan Chakrabarty, Executive Director and Business Head, Shriram Farm Solutions said here.
"Shriram SmartKisan contains information in Hindi related to all farm solution products and recommendations on cultivation for important crops. The most exciting and beneficial feature of this Application is that a farmer can take a picture of a farm problem and send it to the farm solutions experts for it to be responded to within 24 hours," he said.

Speaking about this new initiative, Chakrabarty, said, "With the launch of Shriram Smart Kisan, we are working towards our vision of helping increase the productivity and profitability of the farmers.
We will be reaching out to almost 30 per cent of the farmers who are using android phones in the northern market. We will be promoting the application in all our communications so that we reach out to all the farmers to adopt the product".
Shriram Farm Solutions with a turnover of Rs 1,780 cr in last fiscal has 600 agronomists across India.
"When a farmer sends their queries to the SmartKisan App, the agronomists from their region will study the problems and give solutions accordingly," he said.

Shriram Farm Solutions has 100 agronomists in Punjab and Haryana spread across different locations. SmartKisan will be available in Punjabi by January 2015 followed by other languages, he said.
