Shristi Hotel, a part of the Kanoria Foundation, has invested Rs 1,100 crore for developing the five-star deluxe Westin property at New Town near the city.
The hotel, which became operational last month, is touted to be the tallest hotel building in India with 32 floors and a helipad.
"This is the tallest hotel in the country. There is a helipad on the top for which we shall be applying for license before the Airports Authority of India (AAI)," MD of Shristi Hotel, Sujit Kanoria, told reporters here today.
The helipad had been constructed keeping in mind possible visits of state leaders, who can directly check-in after landing.
Kanoria said it took eight years to obtain the height clearance from AAI, as it is close to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Dum Dum.
"We have already put in Rs 1,100 crore, and another Rs 400 crore will be spent in constructing a mall contiguous to the hotel," he said.
Another high-rise 'V' next to the hotel has also been built, which will have serviced apartments.
The complex, including the hotel, serviced apartments and the mall, when fully operational, would stand on eight acres of land, Kanoria said.
The entire property with 314 keys would become operational by June next year.
The hotel will be managed by Westin, a part of the Marriott international chain.
