: A Sub Inspector attached to Government general hospital here has been suspended after his demand for Rs 1000 as bribe from a man involved in an assault case was reportedly recorded on mobile video, though the complainant agreed to withdraw the case against him.
The city police commissioner ordered a departmental enquiry against the SI Arunachalam after the recording showing him 'threatening' the victim and pulling him into the station was sent by "Whats ap" to the commissioner.
The recording shows the man telling Arunachalam that the complainant was his friend, the fight between them had happened by accident and the latter had been treated as out patient and discharged.
He told the SI that both parties had apologised for their actions and requested police to close the case.
However the SI is seen telling the victim that they had a lot of expenses in the station and he was not demanding the money for himself.
When the man refused and went out of the station, the SI went after him and asked him to stay put in the station if he did not pay the money. The man did not oblige and waited under a tree in the premises
The SI is seen scuffling with him as he leaves even as a woman relative asks the SI why he was demanding money when the complaint itself has been withdrawn.
