Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu has recommended eminent Punjabi litterateur Jaswant Singh Kanwal's name for the nation's second highest civilian honour 'Padma Vibhushan'.
Calling Kanwal a "precious gem of Punjab", Sidhu has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi recommending his name and seeking issuance of a postage stamp in the honour of the literary doyen, an official release said.
The Chairman of Punjab Kala Parishad, Surjit Patar has conferred Kanwal with the 'Punjab Gaurav Puraskar'. The litterateur received Rs one lakh, a citation and a shawl.
Kanwal, who will turn 100 tomorrow, was felicitated at his residence in village Dhudike in Moga district today.
