A silent march held by the 'Sakal Jain Samaj' here urged that the court should reconsider its decision on the issue.
The march started from Jain Snathak in Kothi Bazar area and after passing through various streets of the city, culminated at Amjhira Parshavnath Mandir in Betuj Ganj area.
The community leaders also handed over a memorandum to the district Collector demanding that the court should reconsider its decision on 'Santhara'.
Some trade organisations in the city also supported the demand by keeping their establishments closed till 1 PM.
The Rajasthan High Court had earlier this month held Jainism religious ritual of 'Santhara' as illegal, making it punishable under section 306 and 309 IPC (abatement of suicide).
"Santhara or fast unto death is not an essential tenet of Jainism," the HC had said, adding it cannot be termed as humane and is in violation with the basic human rights.
