Simon Cowell tried to deflect questions related to his impending fatherhood with a friend's wife, saying he wanted to keep things private for the time being.
Lauren Silverman's unexpected pregnancy made headlines because she is technically still married to his friend, real estate developer Andrew Silverman.
Andrew filed for divorce from Lauren two weeks ago in New York City citing adultery with Cowell being named as a co-respondent in the papers.
During the press tour of 'X Factor', a reporter asked Cowell, "Congratulations on the addition. The new baby. Were you as surprised by the news as we were?"
"I haven't read the newspapers. Am I missing something? Sorry. Unfortunately, I have to keep this private for the moment. It's just one of those things, but thank you anyway," Cowell said in his reply.
Later, another reporter asked how the female judges (Kelly Rowland, Paulina Rubio, Demi Lovato) feel Simon would be as a father.
"No comment," Demi shot out. While Cowell laughed saying, "That was clever."
Later, the media mogul, 53, tried to clear up things a bit, saying he will discuss the issue eventually.
"There are a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right. I really have to be sensitive here because there are a lot of people's feelings involved."
When asked if he could tell us how he's feeling, Simon simply responded, "I would love to, but I have to respect a lot of other people's feelings.
