An evening of Kathak and Sufi music composed around Sindhi art and culture will be held here tomorrow.
Organised by Sindhi Academy, Department of Art, Culture and Languages, Government of Delhi, "Sajan Saan Rooh Rihaniyoon", which means two lovers' souls are talking to each other, will be held at the Kamani Auditorium.
Manish Sisodia, Delhi deputy chief minister, said that the Delhi government hopes to develop and present quality Sindhi programmes.
"Sindhi art and culture is a valuable part of Delhi's culture. Programmes like this are a great way of bringing forth the best of Sindhi tradition to a new audience. With a talented new Sindhi Academy committee in place, the Delhi government hopes to present and develop quality Sindhi programmes," he said.
The musical evening will feature an amalgamation of Kathak and Sufi music with six choreographic presentations like 'Leela Chanesar', 'Shumar', 'Naale Alakh', 'Raqs', 'Kiyan Rijhaya', and 'Tarana'.
The first performance of the evening will be by the disciples of Padmashree awardee Rani Karnaa.
With 'Leela Chanesar', the evening will move on to tell an iconic Sindhi tale of Leela and Chanesar, king and queen of an anciet city of Sindh.
Three abstract elements-- numbers, musical notes and mystic Aum-- will come together in the third performance, 'Shumar'.
With 'Raqs', the audience will get to experience the quintessential multiplicity of Kathak as a dance form.
The evening will conclude with 'Tarana', a traditional intraform of Kathak and Hindustani classical music. It is a dance composition in the medium and fast tempos, the vocal accompaniment here is based on mnemonic syllables.
