Having drawn references from lady IPS achievers as Kiran Bedi and Damayanti Sen, 'Singur - A Rescue Operation' is the first film pitting a woman commando as chief of a child rescue mission from well, the director Rajeev Gupta said.
"If India can be proud of her daughter astronaut Sunita Williams, if upright officers like Kiran and Damayanti can set examples, why can't a commando chief be a woman showing great combat skill!" Director Rajeev Gupta told PTI at the film's premier.
"And with women facing the brunt of harassment till this date in homes and in public places, with atrocities on women reported in the media every passing day, we wanted to remind everybody how women are proving equal to task in even spheres that demand great physical endurance," Rajeev, earlier associated with a Bollywood director, said.
Rajeev, who recalled how like the entire nation he sat glued to the tv set during the hours long Prince rescue saga in Haryana eight years back, asked, "If a woman can be a pilot, why can't she head a commando operation? I thought this could have a symbolic value."
Also as a citizen of India, 'Singur - A Rescue Operation' is the tribute to the Army and Security Force jawans engaged in protecting the lives in various rescue operations, he said.
"We have had films showing how our jawans fight for the land, but they are adept in disaster management and saving civilians," he said.
"We would love to screen the film to children and youth, especially girls, to make them aware about their true strength. It is a tribute to 'Durga-Shakti'," a spokesperson of Gogi Film House, the producers, said.
