Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi today asked people to wait for the outcome of probe launched into the crash of a Russian plane, which Islamic State (ISIS) militants claim they downed to avenge Russian air strikes in Syria.
Dreaded terrorist group ISIS claimed responsibility for shooting down the Russian plane - with 224 people on board - even as authorities in both Russia and Egypt maintained that there was no indication that the plane was shot down or blown up.
Late yesterday, ISIS militants even released a video purporting to show the final moments of the Russian jet, but most experts dismissed the video as fake.
"In such cases, leave it to specialists to determine the cause of the plane crash because it is a subject of an extensive and complicated technical study," state news agency MENA quoted Sisi as saying.
Flight 9268, carrying Russian tourists home on board an Airbus A321 aircraft, crashed yesterday morning 23 minutes after taking off from the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, near the southern tip of the Sinai, on a flight to St. Petersburg.
The plane wreckage was spotted in the north of the Sinai Peninsula, some 100 kilometers south of the city of El-Arish.
There were 217 passengers and seven crew members on board, most of them Russian nationals.
