Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has accused Lt Governor Najeeb Jung of "unlawfully" shooting down government proposal to appoint IAS officer Ankur Garg as the new VAT Commissioner.
Sisodia today wrote to Jung and said his objection behind Garg rejection as VAT Chief is not as per laid down rules.
Two days back, the Lt Governor had turned down the government's proposal to appoint Garg as new VAT commissioner, saying that he is junior to hold the key post.
"In his letter, Sisodia said that LG has unlawfully rejected government proposal. The objection made by the LG behind shooting down proposal to appoint Garg as VAT chief is not as per rules," said a senior government official.
Last week, Delhi government had hit out at Centre over the transfer of VAT Commissioner Vijay Kumar and four other IAS officers, saying that it was running an elected government in the capital by "dictatorship" and also hinted at "pressure from lobbies" behind the move.
Sisodia had also slammed the Centre of not consulting the city government before transferring Kumar and asked whether an elected government could not even choose its VAT commissioner.
Claiming that Kumar, as the VAT chief, had cracked the whip on big tax evaders, Sisodia had said that the transfer could have been possibly "pressurised" by a lobby of such persons.
