SIT formed to probe traffic constable's death

Delhi Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder of Constable Mana Ram who was allegedly mowed down by a 26-year-old man after an argument.
"An SIT consisting of one Inspector each from Crime Branch, Traffic Unit and Moti Nagar Police Station under supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Rajouri Garden) Eish Singhal has been formed to probe the case," a Delhi Police statement said today.
Mana Ram was allegedly run over by one Raman Kant on Saturday.
26-year-old Raman Kant, who was at the wheels of the Maruti Ritz car and accompanied by his two minor friends, was stopped at the Zakhira flyover by 24-year-old Mana Ram.
The Constable asked them to take the diverted route. However, an argument ensued between the two following which Raman Kant reversed his car and ran over Mana Ram dragging him for around 150 metres. The constable was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead.
The trio had fled the scene but were later nabbed and a case of murder was registered in this regard at Moti Nagar Police Station.
As many as 10 traffic policemen have lost lives in violent incidents in the national capital in the last five years. Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today announced financial assistance of Rs 1 Crore to the family of Mana Ram.
Jung said that the government will also explore the possibility of extending all help to the family of the deceased, including possibility of a job to a member subject to fulfilling certain requirements, according to statement issued by L-G house.
