Six labourers died of suffocation while they were digging a well at a factory in Hazinagar in North 24 Parganas district, fire brigade sources said today.
When two workers got stuck in the mud inside the well, four others went inside to rescue them last evening. As nobody turned up, fire brigade was pressed into service.
Fire brigade personnel recovered the bodies. All the six labourers died of suffocation after inhaling toxic gas, they said.
