According to police, a housewife, Lata Naidu (35), was taking her son Gautam home from SVP school this afternoon and while crossing the road at Kandivali recreating club, the bus hit the duo, killing the boy on the spot and fracturing the woman's leg.
The accused, Jokhanlal Yadav (54), who also works as driver at public transport bus service 'BEST', was trying to reverse the vehicle on a 'No Entry' road when the boy came under the wheels, police said.
Yadav escaped from the spot fearing public wrath but later he was traced and placed under arrest, police said.
The private bus was hired by the parents in the area to pick up and drop the children at home from the school, police said.
Naidu's family lives in Daruwala compound in Malad, police said adding the accused was booked under relevant IPC sections including 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), police said.
