Skeletal remains: Granite firm owner appears for questioning

Days after skeletal remains of four persons suspected to be buried by quarry owners were exhumed from a burial ground near Melur, owner of the PRP Granite company, P R Palanisamy, today appeared for questioning in connection with the case, police said.
Palanisamy appeared at Keezhavalavu police station after he was summoned for questioning, police said.
ADSP Mariappan and DSP Mangaleswaran are questioning him, police said.
Police had issued summons to Palanisamy and three others.
Two of the firm's employees -- Manager of PRP Granites, Ayappan and quarry-in-charge Jothibasu were questioned two days ago.
IAS officer U Sagayam, appointed by Madras High Court as Legal Commissioner to probe "illegal" granite quarrying in this district, had ordered digging of some sites following allegations of human sacrifice.

Sagayam ordered digging of the sites at E.Malampatti on the banks of the Manimutharu on a complaint that mentally challenged persons had been given as "human sacrifice" in one of the granite quarries in 2011.

The complaint was given by one of the drivers of heavy machinery working with the PRP granite export company, retired ADSP Velu, assisting Sagayam in his investigations, had said.
A case had been registered against Palanisamy and some others last week but the company had denied the allegation.
The skeletons recovered were that of a baby and three men. While skeletons of two men were recovered on September 13 that of the baby and another man were recovered in the early hours of Monday.
