The Jammu and Kashmir state legal service authority (SLSA) today held a camp in Rajouri district and distributed relief worth Rs 9.92 lakh among 29 victims of Pakistani shelling.
SLSA executive chairman Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar presided over the legal services camp at Muradpur, providing relief material sanctioned by the district administration, including ex-gratia relief to the victims of cross-LoC shelling, an official spokesman said.
He said benefits under various social welfare schemes were also distributed.
School bags and stationery items to 200 girl students and helmets to 40 miners were provided to targeted beneficiaries of various schemes, he said.
He said Justice Sudhakar impressed upon the district legal service authority (DLSA), para legal volunteers, retainer lawyers and departments delivering public services to ensure that the intended benefits of various social welfare schemes percolate to the targeted beneficiaries.
Stressing to shift from disseminating legal awareness to actual empowerment of the marginalised sections of society, he said the endeavour of the SLSA was to safeguard the rights of sub-alter groups of society, and advised panel and retainer lawyers to work in a coordinated manner to streamline the justice delivery system at the grass-root level.
