"A smiling face is always welcome in court" was the advise of the Supreme court judge Ranjan Gogoi to the law students here at the Delhi University's Campus Law Centre (CLC).
"Keep smiling. Our generation has forgotten to smile. Keep in mind that a smiling face is always welcome in the court," he told the students while inaugurating 11th K K Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition today.
While emphasising importance of the three-day competition, he said that the topic deals with the very important issue of "corruption" which is a very serious problem for our democracy and development.
Addressing the students, Justice Gogoi, also a CLC alumnus, said that when he completed his education in 1978, there were no such fantastic learning opportunities in the campus like the moot court competition, while asking the students to soak its experience and take from it as much as possible regardless of the outcome of the competition.
He said that exercising a hypothetical case is a great exercise to learn the manner in which the law is practised in the real world, adding that mooting broadly assists in developing the basic skills of legal profession.
He also mentioned that Bar Council of India is also taking an initiative to introduce the mooting as a part of legal curriculum in all the universities across the country.
While speaking at the opening of the competition, held in the memory of eminent lawyer late K K Luthra, DU's Law Faculty Dean Prof Ashwani Kumar Bansal asked the students to think and work for the society and also for the poor and deprived class.
Students of 74 law institutions from India and abroad are participating in the competition.
