A jawan of Odisha's elite Special Operation Group (SOG) today died in a training camp at Chandaka on the outskrits of the state capital here.
The deceased jawan has been identified as Laxminarayan Pradhan, who fell unconscious during training and declared dead by doctors when taken to the Capital hospital here.
The incident sparked tension in the training camp as other jawans staged a demonstration alleging Pradhan was not given required preliminary treatment when he fell unconscious.
The protesting jawans also alleged Pradhan was forced to run and undergo training even after he complained that he was unwell.
IG (Operation) Soumendra Priyadarshi, who rushed to the training camp, however, rejected the allegation and said "He ran for 10 kms and completed the run before the stipulated time. Then Laxminarayan suddenly fainted and was rushed to the MI room here at the camp for initial examination. He was then taken to the Capital Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Most likely it looks like a cardiac incident, but a postmortem will be carried out."
Priyadarshi also denied that Laxminarayan was forced to participate in the training despite his illness and added, compensation would be paid to the family of the deceased as per government norms.
