Somdev Devvarman and Saketh Myneni cleared the first hurdle in qualifying for the ATP 500 Citi Open even as Sanam Singh fell by the wayside.
Myneni shocked ninth seed American Donald Young 6-7(2) 6-3 6-4 in the first round of the qualifiers. Young is placed 108 rungs above Myneni in the ATP Charts at 155.
Somdev got the better of American Jesse Witten with a 7-5 6-0 scoreline.
However, Sanam Singh had disappointment in store as he lost 0-6 5-7 to Australian 12th seed Samuel Groth.
Myneni, ranked 263, now faces top seed and world number 117 Australian Matthew Ebden.
Somdev's next round opponent is America's Christian Harrison.
In the doubles main draw, India's challenge will be presented by Rohan Bopanna with his new partner Andre Begemann of Germany.
They face top seeded pair of Austria's Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares of Brazil.
