Sonia said she expresses her "solidarity with over a billion fellow Indians who live the idea of India in their heart and soul against all odds".
"Congress President Sonia Gandhi has extended her greetings on the occasion of Republic Day. Recalling the founding principles of our Republic, Gandhi hoped that sovereignty, democracy, equality and justice will always prevail and perpetuate," an AICC statement said.
Sonia Gandhi and BJP President Amit Shah were seen seated in the front row two seats apart at the Republic Day celebrations on the majestic Rajpath.
Meanwhile greeting the people on the occasion of Republic Day, Congress Vice President Rahul said it is a day to reaffirm and celebrate the values enshrined in our constitution.
"Happy #RepublicDay. A day to reflect,reaffirm & celebrate the values enshrined in our constitution, (sic)" said Rahul in a tweet.
