UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will tomorrow lay the foundation for two important projects -- a refinery-cum-petrochemical complex and a modern rail coach factory -- in Rajasthan, where Assembly polls are scheduled to be held later this year.
The Rs 37,229 crore refinery-cum-petrochemical complex, a joint project of Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) and the Rajasthan government, would be set up at Pachpadra in Barmer district and the Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) coach factory would come up at Gulabpura in Bhilwara district.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in Pachpadra in view of the UPA chairperson's visit, police said adding, about two lakh people are expected to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony.
More than 1,000 policemen and officials will look after the security arrangements at the venue.
"We have roped in the police from both Jodhpur and Bikaner range and have deployed five companies of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC)," said a police officer.
Preparations have been made to ease traffic movement and five parking lots have been set up to accommodate vehicles.
In wake of the demonstrations by people from Lilala, who are against the setting up of refinery at Pachpadra, police has taken the required steps to keep them away from the venue.
"We will make sure that they do not assemble anywhere near the venue," the officer said.
