Famous 'Sopana Sangeetham' exponent Padmanabha Marar passed away today at his residence in Ramapuram near Pala at the age of 113, his family said.
Marar is survived by his four children.
Sopana Sangeetham is a form of classical music prevalent in the temples of Kerala.
Marar, who first came to Lord Sree Rama temple at Ramapuram in 1913 for performing during daily rituals, was considered the most aged performing artiste in India.
He continued to perform till the age of 110.
Considering his contribution in propagating the temple art, the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi had in 2014 presented him the Gurupooja award.
