In a case of suspected suicide pact, one person died, and his mother and brother are fighting for their lives in a city hospital, police said today.
The police, following a phone call from a neighbour, found an elderly woman and her two sons, all unconscious, from their residence in Jadavpur located in southern part of the city.
They were taken to a nearby state-run hospital where the elder son was pronounced brought dead, police said.
The woman and her other son's condition are stated to be critical, a senior police officer of Jadavpur police station said.
"Initial medical test reports said the three had consumed poison. But the reason for their doing so is not yet clear," the officer said.
Initial probe revealed that the family was debt ridden, he said.
