The Professional Audio and Lighting Association (PALA) representing the sound and lighting professionals in the 29 states and seven union territories, today held press conference and announced this decision.
"We will not be rendering our services on August 15. We are observing Mute Day on the occasion of Independence Day as well as during the Dahi Handi celebrations.
"We have decided so, because we want to highlight the problems faced due to misinterpretation of law, incorrect implementation of the ruling dictated by the Supreme Court and misleading facts presented by a couple of individuals to the competent authorities on sound pollution," said Roger Drego, president of PALA.
Explaining about the manner in which the Mute Day will be observed, he said, "We will follow the rule book. Since an event cannot operate on sound levels below 75 dB. We would rather not take any orders on that day and end up on the wrong side and call upon more troubles on ourselves."
Terming the sound and lights as an integral part of all festivities and celebrations, Drego said, "We request the government and all the concerned authorites to extend all out cooperation during all festivals and events being held during the year.
