South Central Railway Apr-Dec gross earnings up 21.5%

South Central Railway (SCR) today said its gross earnings surged 21.5 per cent to Rs 9,340 crore during the April-December 2014 period and traffic volume saw an increase.
"It reflects generation of additional revenue of Rs 1,652 crore when compared to Rs 7,688 crore posted in the same period (Apr-Dec 2013) of last fiscal," SCR said in a release here.
The earnings surpassed the Railway Board's target of Rs 9,285 crore for this period. The gross earnings targeted for the current fiscal is Rs 12,762 crore and SCR is set to meet this goal, it said.
The cumulative freight loading during the period under review stood at 85.7 million tonnes (MT), a growth rate of 10 per cent over 77.9 MT in the same period of last yeart. It surpassed the Railway Board's target (83.1 MT) by 2.6 MT.
Freight income constituted around 70 per cent of the gross earnings of the zone, which consists of 6 divisions - Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded.
Revenue from freight activities till the end of December 2014 grew to Rs 6,614 crore, up 23.5 per cent from Rs 5,359 crore in the first nine months of the last fiscal.
Coal contributed 53 per cent of the total freight loading. The loading of coal surged to 45.6 MT during April- December 2014, a growth of 4.3 MT (10.4%) compared to 41.3 MT in the same period of last year.
SCR carried 276 millions of originating passengers during the period or around 10 lakhs on an average per day. Earnings from passenger sector were Rs 2,323 crore, showing an 18 per cent growth over Rs 1,973 crore clocked in the same period of last financial year.
Secunderabad-headquartered SCR predominantly serves the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra and parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.
