South Delhi to get 75,000 LED lights by 3rd week of January

As many as 75,000 LED lights will be installed in a phased-manner by the third week of January in south Delhi, SDMC today said.
Out of these, 55,000 LED lights will be installed by December, it said.
"As many as 2,500 dark spots identified by the Delhi Police and SDMC will get LED lights for proper illumination to ensure security.
"16,000 high-mast lights are being replaced with white LED lights from December," South Delhi Municipal Corporation's Standing Committee Chairman Shailender Singh Monti said.
With the installation of more than 75,000 LED lights in a phased manner, we are set to illuminate the area. Installation of these lights will be completed by the third week of January next year, he said.

Monti claimed that SDMC has fulfilled the promise about installation of 100 LED lights in each ward.

"Installation of these LED lights will also begin from December. In all, 11,500 LED lights will be installed in the wards," SDMC said.
A backlog of 25,000 poles without light sources or with broken ones, will be fitted with new LED lights, Monti said, adding existing lights in parks numbering around 20,000 will be replaced with the illuminative LED lights. Work on these lights will begin in the first week of January.
Installation of solar panels on SDMC's 40 buildings including zonal ones, major schools and hospitals will begin from December 15, he said.

"The panels are being installed under a project with a life span of 25 years. The cost will be recovered within seven years. Thereafter, SDMC will get free power for consumption and leaving surplus to be sold for inclusion in the grid.
"Installation of solar panels in these buildings will cost Rs 17 crore," he added.
In another move, SDMC is set to switch over the operation of the three major parking sites at Lajpat Nagar under the Central Zone, from the Delhi Integrated Multi Model Transit System Ltd (DIMTS) to the Traders Association, Lajpat Nagar.
Mayor Shayam Sharma has given the nod for allowing the Traders Association to operate the parking sites - 3Cs Firoz Gandhi Road; Vir Sawarkar Marg, Central Market and Haldi Ram area, another statement by SDMC said.

"The switchover may take place at the earliest... The association will be allowed to run these parking sites at a guaranteed amount of Rs 15 lakh per month, on pilot basis, initially for a period of one year," the Mayor said.
