South Sudan's ambassador visits NIRD campus in Rajendranagar

South Sudan's Ambassador to India Daniel Peter Ophol visited the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) campus in Rajendranagar here today to explore possibilities of his country benefiting from NIRD's expertise on rural development.
His visit comes as a prelude to the forthcoming visit of the country's prime minister to India in August as part of the bilateral co-operation between the two countries, according to an NIRD release issued here today.
The ambassador and NIRD director-general M V Rao discussed possibilities of training Sudanese personnel on technology and a host of issues that come under the gamut of rural development subject.
He also visited the Rural Technology Park (RTP) to see innovative technologies being promoted in housing, renewable energy including biogas production, brick making and roofing, besides other rural enterprises and cottage industries.
This was followed by detailed discussions on NIRD providing scientific advice to the country on issues like mapping of mineral resources and ground water table in different regions, besides ownership of resources by the community and assets management.
The ambassador said out of a total population of 10 million in South Sudan, six million people live in villages, the release said.
