The SP's state unit in a memorandum to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik suggested to include The Odisha Reservation of SEBC Vacancies Act 2008 in the IX Scheduled of the Constitution.
"It is done in case of Tamil Nadu," the memorandum read adding that the the state MPs may be directed to raise this issue in the coming Parliament Session in mid February 2014.
"This judgement is a setback for all backward class students appearing in the OAS (Odisha administrative service) examination," SP state president Rabi Behera said.
In view of this judgement, the SP urged upon the chief minister to take certain steps to protect the interest of OBCs.
The state may take steps to establish a statutory OBC Commission to look into the rights and welfare of the OBCs in the state, the memorandum said adding that immediate steps may be taken by the state government to provide 27 per cent reservation to OBCs in admission to state sponsored educational institutions and so also in the field of employment it may be extended to private sector.
