A special immunisation drive has been launched in the measles-hit Ganjam district of Odisha, officials said today.
Around 1,000 children up to two years of age across the district would be covered in the six-day drive.
The children who were not covered in the regular immunisation programme would be covered under the special drive launched yesterday, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) P K Kar said.
The special immunisation at Dasiamaripalli village, where a child died and around 70 children suffered from measles, would not be covered this time, he said.
Kar said Vitamin-A was administrated to the children up to five years in the affected village and its surrounding five villages after the outbreak of measles.
"We have already provided Vitamin-A to around 285 children and the drive will continue for another 2 to 3 days," additional district medical officer (family welfare) Sukanti Mishra said.
Mishra along with two medical teams, including the consultant, World Health Organisation (WHO) were in the measles-hit village to assess the situation. "The situation is normal. No fresh case was reported," the ADMO said.
She, however, said two children were referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the district Congress committee demanded compensation of at least Rs one lakh to the parents of the child who died due to measles. The party also demanded free treatment to all the children suffering from the infectious disease.
